John T. Katerberg is a Christian fine artist who creates inspirational oil on canvas paintings designed to confront the unsaved with the gospel message and inspire the body of Christ.

His goal for the paintings is that they are confrontational, that they effect the Spirit. Artwork that you see with the heart, not just the eye. Katerberg credits the Lord Jesus with the inspiration and idea concepts, since many paintings come in the form of a vision that he then must put on canvas.

Katerberg has created seven published oil paintings that have been marketed in West Michigan. Hundreds of these publications have been purchased by the local Christian community and are on display in various homes, businesses, and many area churches. 

Katerberg has been creating art since childhood. His passion in life is to paint pictures that touch the Spirit. He lives in West Michigan with his wife and daughters.

Artist Statement

According to the Bible, God created man in His image.

Since God is the great creator, it follows that humans, being made in His image, are creators as well, but to a far lesser extent.

Of course, we can't bring something from nothing, as God can. But God did create humans to be the only creatures on earth who can conceive of a thought or design, then bring it into existence. So, when a person creates art of any kind-- representational, abstract, performance, singing or writing-- he or she mimics the creator attribute of God. 

We can create art just for the joy of it, or to express a thought and idea. Sometimes it takes artwork to get people to stop, think, and react, where mere words may not get their attention.

My main goal in life is to bring glory to my Lord Jesus and bring people to a saving knowledge and relationship with him. My desire and call is to create artwork so technically and visually interesting that it compels people to stop, look and question. Even more importantly, I want these paintings to confront the viewer with a message. A message of faith in Christ, hope in God, and love that can only come from above.

Since good artwork does not give all the answers, I consider it a success when people look at, and take in my work. Once the person takes in my work and the accompanying message, it is up to God to do the rest.
